Gravity wins Golden Hedgehog Award for Best Financial PR

Gravity London has won a national Public Relations award in recognition of its work for the Institute of Credit Management (ICM) in raising the profile of the credit management profession and highlighting the ongoing issues surrounding late payment.

The agency beat off six other entries from the PRs of High Street banks, asset management companies and credit card issuers to win the Financial PR Campaign of the Year category of the 2013 Golden Hedgehog Awards held at the Emirates Stadium in London on March 21.

Philip King, Chief Executive of the ICM, says he is delighted that the partnership with Gravity London, the ICM’s appointed PR agency, is creating greater recognition for the Institute and the credit profession: “Following on from our nomination in the 2012 CIPR Pride Awards, this serves as another acknowledgement of just how much we have achieved in helping the voice of the credit manager to be heard louder and clearer within the UK media.”

Sean Feast, Director of Gravity London, is similarly pleased: “We work with the ICM and the ICM team works with us in creating news and content across all channels that gives the Institute and credit managers a deserved share of voice on the key issues of late payment and cashflow.

“‘Partnership’ is an often overused word, but it is genuinely this partnership approach and the trust at a senior level that enables us to deliver award-winning campaigns. I am delighted for our client and my team.”

Gravity wins credit industry accolade

Gravity London has scooped the award for the Best PR/Advertising Campaign in the credit industry – the second year in a row that it has beaten the best in the industry to the title.

Gravity won the award for its client the lewis group, and a campaign to challenge clients to ‘think differently’ about the lewis group and its services.

The ‘debt differently we do’ campaign – which formed an integral part of an entire company re-brand – beat fierce competition to take the title, organised and hosted annually by the Credit Services Association (CSA).

Managing Director of the lewis group Dave Berry says that the accolade is confirmation of the hard work by the entire team and its close working relationship with Gravity: “The success of this campaign has been outstanding and far exceeded our original expectations,” he says.

“The departure from our old identity – and our old way of thinking – has been radical, and took some considerable courage on the part of the Board to endorse, but it has proven to be a superb decision for the future of our business.

“Winning this award confirms that we were right to take this decision, right to have the courage of our convictions, and right to believe that serious marketeers would recognise the value that effective integrated communications can deliver.”

The awards were judged by an independent panel that this year included Megan Charles of the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA); Brian Havercroft of the Civil Court Users Association (CCUA); and Stephen Kiely and Marcel Le Gouais, editors of CCR Magazine and Credit Today respectively. The panel was chaired by Peter Wallwork, Chief Executive of the CSA and DBSG.

The Award was presented at the CSA DBSG Gala Dinner on Thursday, 6 September.

Barking Mad!

The PR team at Gravity London had a slightly different challenge and solution recently that taxed their media relations skills – in the form of a disgruntled four legged friend.

A columnist for a well-known country pursuits title was checking in at one of the hotels of a new client – Classic Lodges - when she was told that dogs were not allowed at this particular property (Grinkle Park).

When she recounted this experience in her monthly column, the managers at Grinkle Park alerted the guys at Gravity to come up with a response.

First they drafted a letter purporting to be from Jack, the German short-haired Pointer, and an ‘employee’ of Classic Lodges. Jack is the resident receptionist assistant at Charingworth Manor – another hotel in the Classic Lodges’ stable. He wrote to clear up the confusion over the dog friendly hotels, and extend a paw of invitation for dinner and a stay at his own hotel.

Needless to say, Lola – the author’s dog – and her owner were delighted with Jack’s letter, so much so that they have since written about his proposal in their regular magazine column.

Gravity London achieves PR industry Gold

Gravity London has achieved its Consultancy Management Standard (CMS) – the gold standard of service for the PR industry managed by the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA).

The internationally recognised Consultancy Management Standard (CMS) is the industry’s quality certification system for PR firms. The Standard is an assurance to clients that Gravity London adheres to strict quality standards in management, communication and service delivery.

The CMS is an independently- audited set of eight tests that a consultancy must pass as a member of the PRCA. It combines elements of ISO 9000 and Investors in People with criteria specific to the public relations industry. Sean Feast, Director, says that having recently become PRCA members, it was logical to seek the CMS standard: "It is a great testament to the quality of our work, the company and our people," he says.
